There are several common similarities between a wharepuni and my home. Such as having a triangular roof and having a wooden frame. However, a wharepuni has a thatched roof made of wood, ferns and other materials, whereas our roof has a wooden frame with brick slates layered upon one another. In a pa, there are separate buildings for storage, cooking and sleeping. Our house is one larger building with walls separating the house into sections/rooms. These rooms have separate uses much like how the different buildings in a pa have different uses.
I have many dream jobs and I am a bit undecided as to what I want to do. I have a love for photography, however, at this stage, my photography is just a hobby and it is likely to stay that way. I also love the thought of being a high school teacher, teaching science or mathematics. I love science and at the moment it looks as though this is the profession I will go for. I am looking into Marine Biology and Marine conservation.
Special Meals:
I love cooking and I often make Italian or Mexican food. One of my favorite meals is tacos. I make this for my family often. We buy Old El Paso's stand and stuff taco shells as well as Old El Paso's taco seasoning. We dish the mince mixture into warmed shells before topping them with cheese, tomato, lettuce, and mayo or sour cream.
A close second would be spaghetti and meatballs. I love the flavors of this classic Italian dish. However, I love tacos just that little bit more.
Hey Amy,
ReplyDeleteI'm Jade C from the Summer Learning Journey team! I will also be reading your blog posts along with Jade F, Hazel, Rachel, and many other bloggers. I look forward to blogging with you this summer :)
I can see that you have already made a great start to the programme and this would be your second activity post! I am so happy to see you being active and working through the activities online! You are learning and working hard even outside the school. Well done :)
I really like all the similarities and differences that you recognised between wharepuni and modern houses that we live in today. You have described the appearance and the materials that are used to make those two houses. Perhaps you could also think about the purpose of those buildings and where they are built!
Wow, becoming a Marine biologist or a conservation biologist sounds very cool and exciting. I was never good at maths or science so I never thought about jobs related to those two ares. I am glad that you know what you enjoy and what you want to be when you grow up. I also think that things may change as you grow older and you may want to do something that you've never thought of. I've never thought about becoming a teacher as I was very into art painting and history. I was going to go to art school and become a painter or get a job related to art - art curator. When I became year 13, I started working as a supervisor for SKIDS holiday programme and after school care. I loved working with children so I decided that I want to become a teacher. Dreams do come true :)
YUM! I love tacos! I love all kinds of Mexican food. There is this Mexican restaurant called 'Mexico' in Sylvia Park and I love going there to grab some nice quesadillas, tacos, and jalapeno chicken! Thinking about it makes me hungry... Thank you for sharing your taco recipe! I would love to try making it at home and share with my family for dinner :)
I look forward to reading more of your posts and I hope to hear back from you!
All the best,
Jade C.
I never thought about comparing the purposes of the buildings, what a great idea. I think it is awesome that you got into teaching. What age group do you teach? I hope your family enjoys the tacos as much as mine does.
DeleteHi there Amy,
ReplyDeleteJade F here from the Summer Learning Journey team. Awesome to see you've completed another set of activities! :)
I thought your comparisons between a modern house and a wharepuni was fantastic. The points you made about the specific materials that the wharepuni and the modern house was very well written. It shows me that you read through the article about the wharepuni thoroughly to get your find your information. Awesome job!
In your second activity, I really love your drawing of your dream job. A marine biologist?! That's so cool! I'm from Samoa and I love the ocean and what's in it! Being a marine biologist means having to have a lot of time in the water which is what I would enjoy most about that job! Great choice! Is there any creature in the ocean or place that you would like to visit as a marine biologist? I think swimming along with sting rays and whale sharks would be pretty awesome. :)
That's cool in your bonus activity, how your favourite food is Mexican food, that's my absolute favourite too! I especially love soft shell tacos too. Awesome that you make them at home, I usually make them at home for my family as well. My favourite restaurant to go to is a Mexican place called (funny enough) Mexico and they have amazing soft shell tacos and Mexican fried chicken which is the best!
Looking forward to hearing from you soon and reading more of your SLJ blog posts Amy. :)
All the best,
Jade F :)
Thank you for commenting. I have never left New Zealand before but I hope to change that when I leave school. I would love to study the sea/marine life at the Cook Islands. I would also love to check out The Great Barrier Reef. Two of my favourite ocean creature are Phytoplankton and Bioluminescent algae. They are such fascinating creatures and I would love to find out more about them.
DeleteHi Amy!! ;) Really enjoying reading your blog posts! I love that you are looking into marine biology, how cool!! You would make an awesome teacher!
ReplyDeleteThe tacos look delicious, they are one of my fav meals, i LOVE Mexican food! Remember if you ever want a taste tester your form teacher is always available ha ha!
Look forward to reading more of your journey!
Mrs B :)
Good Morning Amy.
ReplyDeleteMy name is Clare and I am part of the Summer Learning Journey, I am a Intermediate teacher working in the Ako Hiko Cluster which is in Auckland. I am really excited to be working with your school and following your journey this Summer.
You are a very active blogger and i can see all the time and effort you have put in for each task you have completed.
I have particularly enjoyed reading about what career path you would like to take when you leave school and your clarity around this. Has this come from any where particular or has it always been a dream? I had always wanted to be a teacher from when I was very young in Primary school and did not stop until I had achieved that goal.
I also like how you have said that photography is a hobby not quite a career option for you. Im sure you can take Photography at Hornby High school. Its really fun going into the dark room and developing photos. however im sure photography has changed alot from since when I was in High school. :-)
Comment below so I can hear about how your dream job came about as I would love to know more.
Your special meal looks amazing! Did you make this yourself? I also love mexican and making my own at home. I have recently been in Christchurch and they have some really amazing places down there you can eat. Auckland is also not to bad for finding some really fabulous places and foods.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Clare
We did some research in science about the ocean and how the food chains worked. We also looked at how carbon-dioxide pollution is affecting the ocean. I have dream since I was a little kid about doing something involving the ocean but I didn't really give it much thought until part way through the last year. I am hoping to get a taster at the end of the year at a program called hands on at Otago. I did make the tacos myself, I make them often for my family.
